Prop Making
This project was one of the first in my second year at university, it paired with the matte painting project (Concept art). The theme was Sci-fi and the prop requirement was it needed to house a screen. The thought behind my prop was I wanted it to have multiple uses; emergency med kit, environment scanner, something to test samples with as well as communicate with others on the landing party and whatever ship they have in orbit.
This was made with MDF and Blue foam, with a space to slide in a tablet to use as the screens. I wanted the design to be simple like most futureistic objects are with an orange stripe to help it be seen if lost. The back half of the prop can be opened up by twisting it, (the rounded section on the top right being the pivot point) and access the med kit made possible.
Being my first ever made prop I am happy with what I created. I do need more understanding on the typed of props made within film as well as technical wiring so that I could have made it more to my original idea.
Project work through
This gallery shows the project from start to finish though images.
It started with just thinking up designs of a med pack as 3D sketches. Then once I found a design I thought possible then developed a drawn design, drafted the design for dimensions and then made the prop in the workshop.
