Matte Painting

This is the project paired with prop making. This concept was created with photoshop. I started with an image I took of a reservoir in mid Wales and then using photoshop changed the colours of the environment and added in elements to make it appear more like a foreign planet. I didn't have a set idea of what I wanted the outcome to be, it was mainly seeing whaat I could do with photoshop to create an alien esc scene that appeared plausible.

I knew I wanted to add planets in the sky, a landing party and the beginnings of a city. Looking back on the image now, I realise that I didn't do well with the lighting, there's no glow on objects opposite the sunlight so they end up looking muted. I plan to work on my concept art skills both digitally and traditionally as well as revisiting art fundamentals and improving my basics before trying more advanced works.
